I'm making a Onesie at the moment.

Currently I am finishing off a onesie and will post a photo when it's finished. I have so many projects on the go at the moment. I am also in the middle of crocheting some slippers, which I will also post photos of when finished! On Monday we cleared up loads in the back garden and filled the car with the bags of stuff to take to the tip, still a lot more to do. We have an old trampoline to dismantle and take to the scrap yard. (I'm not looking forward to taking the springs off as I think they will be tricky but hey ho, it needs to go.) After all the miserable weather we have had in the past few months it's so nice to get out into the garden for a potter about and get the washing drying on the line.

I have recently been making my own dry washing powder and originally only managed to get a 500 gram bag from Amazon (for £5 ) but I've been surfing the web today and found that I can get much larger amounts from Inralabs if I order it directly from them which works out a fair bit cheaper off the top of my head. I ordered 4 kg for £16 which includes postage. They also sell other stuff for natural cleaning like bicarbonate of soda. Hope this helps someone.

The Gang waiting for Sausage and Egg Pie.

I made Sausage and Egg pie on Sunday and while it was cooking my 3 little pooches and 2 pusses came and waited in the kitchen hoping to get some. Not a chance, it was lovely even though I say it myself. Forgot to take photo of it but above is a pic I took of The Gang on my phone whilst waiting for it to cook. Sorry about the poor quality but i'm useless at photography. I lightly fried 2 onions with 6 quorn sausages then cut the sausages up and placed in an oven dish. I whisked up 6 eggs with a splash of milk and poured this over the sausage mix, a teaspoon of Asda's Moroccan seasoning and topped with puff pastry cut from a yellow stickered ready rolled pack bought the other day.

Homemade Laundry Powder

Hello Readers. The bread that I made using AFrugalMrs' reciped did in fact turn out beautifully and tasted lovely. I think it must be leaving the yeast and water for ten minutes at the start to ferment is what makes it rise so much, the bread is trying to burst out from the lid!! I will take a photo and put it on the blog next time. I plan on using the breadmaker every day now rather than buying it from a shop and not knowing what is in it.(Preservatives and such.) Also, I know it hasn't been dropped on the floor! DD1 works in a supermarket and tells me that one member of staff, if she drops any bread on the floor, just picks it up and puts it on the shelf!! Also on Saturday, I made the laundry powder. A few weeks ago, I found the borax on Amazon, so I ordered some knowing that I was planning on trying a new recipe. I have previously made laundry gloop but I didn't like it. When I was surfing tinterweb recently, I came across several recipes for the powder. Here is the one I used: 2 cups Borax 2 Cups Washing Soda Crystals (sold in most supermarkets) 1/2 bar of soap (grated) few drops of essential oil (optional) Mix well, store in a container with lid. Use maximum of 3 tablespoons per washing load. I have tried this and it gets clothes clean but without the strong perfume that you get from shop bought washing powder. Great for allergies and kinder to the environment but I haven't worked out yet if it's cheaper than shop bought yet.

Homemade Bread in the Breadmaker

As promised, I have made a loaf using my FastBake Morphy Richards Breadmaker. I haven't used my machine for a while as we have been decorating the kitchen and I've mislaid the instruction booklet soI used a recipe from It seems to have turned out better than the recipe I usually use from the manufactures booklet but that could be because I used the 3 hour basic recipe when I usually use fastbake, but I have yet to taste it so the proof will be in the eating so to speak, but it has only just finished and is too hot at the moment. I wanted to post the photo now though before I forget and it gets eaten lol.

Car Woes and What Happened Next

I've been really busy lately and keep forgetting to blog. After the car broke down last week and finding out it was going to cost more than the car was worth, the next day I got on tinterweb to see if I could find another cheap runaround and I was lucky. I found a ford escort 5 door hatchback for £320 with a whole years MOT ticket! So I went to look at it and bought it. Fortunately I had been putting some money aside to get a new freezer. I was only without transport for a day. Since then we found that the exhaust needed looking at as it was a little loose so I popped down to the local exhaust centre and the chap put it on the ramp and said he could have a jiggle with it for £15 so I agreed. He had a tinker about for about half an hour but when it came to paying I was only charged a tenner, result. It seems better now so fingers crossed. It's the early hours now so I'm hoping sleep will be my friend(it hasn't been much lately, I'm not a good sleeper). Tomorrow (later today really lol) I am planning to concoct some laundry powder and get the breadmaker going and hopefully remember to take photos for the blog. I have all the ingredients ready to go. Night.

Oh no, Car Problems

Hello Readers. On Tuesday late afternoon, I took DD 1,2 and 4 to Tesco shopping. DD1 had bought some jeans last week and when she got home, she realised the security tag hadn't been remove. Luckily she still had the receipt so that was 1 reason we went to Tesco, and also DD2 needed some hay and straw for her 3 bunnies and on the same outing I was going to pick up DD3 from work. We went and did Tesco and were just going round the roundabout outside to pick up DD3, when the car just lost power and gave up. There was an awfull smell of burning rubber and the clutch had been making a grinding noise sometimes when I tried to put it in gear. We had 1 or 2 numpties behind us tooting their horns because were holding them up can you believe it!! Luckily my daughters were able to push the car whilst I steered it into a side road by B&Q. Fortunatly I had got a deal with the AA for recovery so I gave them a call. We ended up waiting an hour and a half before the mechanic turned up to say our clutch had died. He said he couldn't tow us. DD2 didn't want to wait any longer (it was really cold and damp so I didn't blame her) We had to wait another hour and 20 minutes for the big truck to come and take us all home. We got home about 8.30! We were all so cold and tired so just ended up straight into our pjs and dressing gowns watching tv and now we are carless :( I have only had my fiesta for 10 months but I only paid £500 for it and have only had to get the door catch replaced so I suppose it has served me fairly well.

More bargains

I forgot to get cat litter and toilet tissue the other day and I also needed an adapter plug for my new electric toothbrush, so last night I popped into sainsburys and headed straight to the reduced section and found these beauties. 6 vegetarian
Items for 20 pence each!

I have noticed I get quite a nice  buzz finding items that I will use at such bargain prices lol:)

All of them went straight in the freezer.

Surprise In The Post

Today I received a cheque in the post for a Premium Bond prize of £25! It's the first time I have won anything and comletely unexpected, in fact, I had forgotten I even had any bonds. I have used the windfall to buy an electric toothbrush.

Update on my toothache

I managed to get an emergency appointment to see a dentist yesterday, (Wednesday). I had phoned my GP surgery on Monday to ask for some strong painkillers until my dental appointment and they left a prescription of co-codamol 30/500 for me to pick up. I also bought some Oragel at the chemist which is applied to the tooth and numbs it a bit. The trouble with the co-codamol is that it makes one very sleepy but at least it keeps the pain away. I came away from the dentist with a referal to have my tooth removed under sedation. This may entail a wait of up to 7 weeks! Needless to say, I am worried about having this done, I'm just terribly anxious about anything to do with dentists and hospital.

Tooth Ache.

I felt a tooth come loose on new year's day and pushed it back with my tongue.A bit of the tooth broke off over a year ago but it hasn't given me any trouble until recently. It settled down for a couple of days but was painfull to eat on. I'm petrified of dentists so I have tried to ignore it but then yesterday and today it has become almost unbearable. I've taken 2 solpadol about 45 minutes ago which doesn't seem to have made much difference. I'm hoping it will eventually ease off a bit so that I can get some sleep till morning then I will have to see if I can get an appointment. I hate toothache, does anyone have any tips on getting rid of it?

Mince Pies

Before and after photos, (I hope ) I decided to make some mince pies yesterday as I had the oven on the go for 2 Meatloaves. I love to cook but loathe the washing up that is to be done after, so I decided to make 3 lots of 8 ounces of pastry then I only had to wash up once afterwards. Last year, just after christmas, sainsburys were selling large jars of mincemeat at silly prices of about 30 pence so I grabbed several. The sell by date isn't until later this year! Half fat to flour popped into my mixer and it was done in no time. I got 12 pies out of 8 ounces of flour. I couldn't find the cutters so I used 2 different sized glasses instead. The 2 other balls of pastry are wrapped in greaseproof paper in the fridge ready to make something else next week.

Shark slipper socks

Hello readers,
Sorry the photo isnt very good, but I dont claim any talent as a photographer, these are the slipper socks that I crocheted for my dd2 for christmas and she loves them. I got the instructions from the internet. They were a pain to make and I prefer knitting but I perservered.
Ive also got a pair of red crochet slippers to finish for dd4 which I will update if and when I finish them
