Decluttering the garden

Friday was spent clearing the back garden. Sorry no pics yet. It was still really hot but as the weekend was forcast for heavy rain, I wanted to get as much of it done as possible before it got a soaking.

An old small shed was stacked up neatly while I decide if it is worth repairing or not. Behind where the shed had been, we found a pile of wooden fence posts and bamboo sticks. These have all been stacked neatly.

Grass and nettles have been cut, and a huge metal frame (which had been used as a dumping place for various old bits of fence and general junk and had weeds growing through the sides,) has been taken to the scrap yard. We also found several rabbit run frames which will probably go for firewood. They are on the front garden ready to be freeecyled.

We have so many plant pots, I don't have room for so some of them will go on freecyle.

Lots of plant watering is going on in our front and back gardens at the moment.

And finally, all that rain and thunder we were supposed to get today?  It's just after 1 am and I have only heard 1 rumble of thunder and  it only rained for about 2 hours so we will probably still have to water the veggies tomorrow (Sunday) which is today really.

My Chickens.

Here are a couple of pics of my girls :)

There are only four left now as we lost 2 to egg binding:(
They are very friendly but do like to take a gentle peck at our toes if we are wearing crocks. We think they are pretending they think our toes are worms or something:)

Furniture Pics and in the garden.

Here are the pics of the garden furniture I bought last week for only £30 before restoration.
Been in the garden a lot lately as there is plenty to do.

Yesterday we made a start on re-doing the chicken run. We plan on covering the floor with paving slabs  because with the dirt floor it gets so muddy with all the rain we get, and also the chickens keep digging it all up so it gets covered in potholes which we have slipped in many a time lol.

Off to the garden now but hope to blog with more pics later.

P.S. Found Harduphester's new blog yay!

Garden Furniture

At the weekend, I came across a lady selling some wrought iron garden furniture. It consists of 2 chairs, 1 round table and a 3 seater bench and she was only asking £30 for the lot which I thought was very reasonable considering they will last for years and only need a repaint. I will get my eldest to take a 'before' pic tomorrow and put it on here, before it is painted.

A few weeks ago, I added 4 new  chickens to go with our other 2 older ones. I rescued them from a farm when they were being sold off as the farmer was downsizing. I was a bit nervous about adding 4 new girls to only 2 original girls in case they picked on the 2,  but I needn't have worried, the 2 older girls kept them in check, only allowing them to eat and drink when they had finished themselves, and eventually they all sorted themselves out.  Sadly, I have lost 2 of the new ones due to them getting egg bound! The vet told me that it is because of the breeding to make them be prolific egg layers. The first one had to be put to sleep just over a week ago, and the 2nd was today. So sad, as they had come to us virtually wild birds and had become quite tame.

This pic is one of the older girls taken on Sunday when we had the family together for a barbeque. The chicken loved being stroked on my daughter's lap and nearly fell asleep after the pic was taken.
Aint she lovely?   :)
